“We have been fly fishing the Zion area for decades. Zion is one of the truly most beautiful places to visit in the southwest, and has the distinction of being Utah's first national park. Aside from its beauty, it holds a special meaning for fly fishers.
Zion is the southern gateway to some of the most unspoiled fly fishing still remaining in the United States, just north of Zion, Southern Utah spreads out and displays some of the most underutilized fly fishing waters left on earth. Thousands of miles of of uncrowded streams and thousands of acres of high mountain reservoirs await the fly fisherman.
Closer to the park Kolob reservoir sits at 9700', Kolob is just over two hundred surface acres set in a beautiful alpine setting. Spring fishing especially after ice-off can be exceptional for large rainbows and cutthroats. Fishing from the shore line is very productive this time of year. Later in the season fishing from shore can still be productive but a float tube or small pontoon will really enhance your trip. Also within the park boundaries is the North Fork of the Virgin River, several stretches of the North Fork hold wild rainbows and cutthroat. A two or three weight pack rod will really come in handy here. Just west of the park two Blue Ribbon designated warm water fisheries, Sand Hallow and Quail Creek Reservoirs both hold large populations of large mouth bass, crappie and blue gill.” —Emmitt Doanne, Founder
